Description

Choctaw Diagonal Twill Plaiting, which has been out of print for many years, and is NOW AVAILABLE in limited quantity.

Author Judith Olney gives instructions and insights for the baskets she learned to make from Claude Medford, Jr., a one-quarter Choctaw Indian, during a 5-day class in 1988.

Includes Medford's description of harvesting and processing river cane; however, Olney recommends that beginners to this technique use 11/64" to 1/4" Flat Oval Reed. Clear instructions and descriptions are accompanied by 91 photographs and many graphs.

Diagonally plaited basket patterns include a square to round basket with a typically Choctaw rolled border, a boat basket, and the square to round with woven-in designs. Olney also discusses cutting material, dyeing, and color organization. A must-have resource.
