Description
Bill Sinnott is a 3rd generation basketmaker from County Laois and has been making baskets for over 60 years. On this DVD he shows how he makes a shopping basket in white willow. Sinnott is a member of the Irish Basketmakers Association and is highly regarded for his unique style of basketmaking. Bill talkes about the local co-op and selling the baskets when he was young.
This DVD is one of a set of 3 DVDs demonstrating the use of brown, buff and white willow by three individual basketmakers (Norbert Platz, Bill Sinnott and Paddy Coleman O'Toole) living in Ireland in 2010. Produced by the Irish Basketmakers Association; 45 minutes. "This fine series of basketmaking films give a vivid account of a vital element of our material culture, far more enlightening than reading about it. The DVDs focus on uniquely Irish aspects of basketmaking where techniques particular to this country are being used." Joe Hogan, author of Bare Branches Blue Black Sky. This DVD is NTSC format (commonly used in the United States and Canada).
